Signs of gambling has been found in many places all over the world: China, Egypt, India, Rome and Greece. It has played its part in our history forever, even in Scandinavia.
It is said that around the year 1,000 A.D. King Olaf of Norway and King Olaf of Sweden once fought over the district of Hising which has been claimed by both countries. The two kings could not come to terms so they agreed on the rolling of a pair of dice. Two six’s were the outcome of the first roll for both kings. ON the next roll, the Swedish king again got two sixes and the Norwegian king rolled one six and one seven. Norway ended up with the Hising territory and the two kings went on their way with no hard feelings between them.
During the Middle Ages gambling was not allowed by soldiers because it kept them from their duty. It was King Henry VIII of England who banned gambling from his soldiers once he saw that they spent little time with marksmanship and drills and more time gambling.
